Flash Flood Warning Issued for Northeastern Balochistan Amidst Heavy Rains

The Meteorological Department Quetta Regional Centre issued a significant alert on Monday, warning of potential flash flooding in local nullahs and streams across northeastern Balochistan. The advisory cautioned that heavy rainfall, alongside windstorms and hailstorms, could cause damage to weak structures during the forecast period.

The weather pattern is attributed to a westerly wave affecting parts of the province, as confirmed by a synoptic situation report from the meteorological office.

For the immediate 24-hour period, forecasters predict mainly partly cloudy conditions in most districts. However, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms, with possibilities of isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, are anticipated at scattered places including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Zhob, Musa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, and numerous other areas. Light rain or drizzle is also expected in coastal and surrounding regions like Gwadar, Pasni, and Ormara.

Looking ahead to the next 48 hours, the weather is expected to become mainly dry or partly cloudy across most of the province. Despite this, rain-windstorms and thunderstorms may persist at scattered locations in districts such as Quetta, Pishin, Zhob, Sibbi, Loralai, and Ziarat. Strong gusty winds are predicted to prevail in the western and southern parts of Balochistan throughout this period.

In the last 24 hours, significant precipitation was recorded in several areas, with Kalat receiving 21.0 mm and Noshki 13.7 mm of rainfall. Minimum temperatures varied across the region, with Kalat recording the lowest at 6.0°C, while coastal cities like Gwadar and Pasni registered lows of 20.0°C and 20.5°C, respectively.
