Food Authority seizes 100 Kg substandard tea, seals tea point

Tea lovers in the federal capital should take note, as the Islamabad Food Authority has launched a crackdown on tea points using substandard tea leaves.

In a recent operation conducted in Sector F10, the food safety teams confiscated and destroyed 100 kilograms of adulterated tea leaves. The concerned tea unit was also sealed due to noncompliance with the previously issued safety directives.

According to Dr Tahira Siddique, Deputy Director of the Islamabad Food Authority, onsite testing confirmed the tea leaves were of poor quality. The used tea was being dyed with banned coloring agents and repackaged for reuse, a serious violation of food safety standards.

‘The tea leaves were found lying on filthy, broken floors, and the hygiene conditions at the site were extremely poor,’ Dr Tahira Siddique stated. She warned that consuming adulterated tea can lead to digestive and intestinal health issues.

The Deputy Director urged citizens to carefully inspect food items before purchasing and ensure they consume only approved products to safeguard their health.
