Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Friday underscored the urgent need for Pakistan to exploit its “blue economy” potential, calling for a significant expansion of the nation”s shipping and fishing industries to drive economic and socio-economic progress.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 8th Maritime Security Workshop in Lahore, Gilani emphasized the crucial importance of the oceans in the twenty-first century and stressed the necessity of ensuring regional maritime security.
The Senate Chairman lauded the Pakistan Navy”s role in safeguarding the country”s maritime frontiers. He also commended the naval force for its efforts in sensitizing the public on the undeniable connection between the oceans and national security.
The event, held at the Pakistan Navy War College, marked the conclusion of the annual workshop organized to foster a better understanding of maritime security and its geopolitical underpinnings across the wider Indian Ocean.
Upon his arrival, the chief guest was received by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf. Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie, the Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College, delivered a welcome address providing an overview of the workshop”s activities.
The session brought together a diverse group of participants, including parliamentarians, policy makers, bureaucrats, academics, and entrepreneurs, along with Armed Forces officers and media representatives.
