The National Assembly was briefed today on the substantial progress of the “Nashonuma Program,” a nationwide initiative that has enrolled 3.9 million beneficiaries over five years to combat child stunting, according to Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah.
During Question Hour, the minister detailed that the enrolled individuals include two million children and one point eight million pregnant women, affirming the program”s extensive reach.
Shah emphasized the initiative”s considerable impact on malnutrition, citing a study that confirmed a 6.4 percent decrease in stunting among children under the age of two.
A more pronounced twenty percent decline in stunting was observed in children within the six-month age range, demonstrating the program”s effectiveness in early-stage intervention.
The poverty alleviation minister further stated that the nutrition support scheme is operational across 157 districts, delivered through a network of 542 facilitation centers.
In a separate update to the assembly, Minister of State for Climate Change Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal announced the formulation of a short-term plan for Climate Action.
She outlined that fourteen key interventions would be implemented over a 240-day timeline to bolster the country”s resilience ahead of the next monsoon season.
Kharal specified that these measures include piloting monsoon ponds in priority flood-prone districts, upgrading flood forecasting systems, establishing an emergency logistics network, and integrating climate adaptation into provincial planning.
