The Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has announced that the construction of the much-anticipated Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) is scheduled to commence in May of this year.
According to an official information today, the declaration was made during a high-level meeting of the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Tuesday, where the minister described the project as a top priority and instructed officials to take immediate steps to prevent any further delays.
Minister Khan stated that the M-6 project, along with the Karachi motorway, will be developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to foster efficiency and sustainability. He directed that work on all sections of the project should proceed simultaneously to guarantee its completion in a timely manner.
In a separate development, the meeting confirmed that the Sialkot-Kharian Motorway (M-12) will be expanded to a 6-lane highway, an upgrade from the previously planned 4 lanes, to better serve future traffic demands.
The Federal Minister emphasised that the current administration”s infrastructure strategy is forward-looking, with a focus on developing motorways that can meet the nation”s requirements for the next three decades.
Discussions also centred on improving regional connectivity, with strategic plans reviewed to link the national motorway network with Kartarpur and other religious tourism centres to enhance their economic impact.
To further this goal, the Minister revealed plans for the Ministry to conduct dedicated “Roadshows” in Canada, the United States, and Europe. These events are intended to promote Sikh religious tourism on an international scale.
The session concluded after the Chairman of the NHA and senior officials delivered a briefing on the feasibility of the Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway and the modernisation of “Right of Way” advertising policies.
