Karachi’s first beach resort was inaugurated at Hawks Bay, providing citizens with local beach vacation opportunities. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated Cove Beach Resort and termed it a “major milestone” for the city. The inauguration coincided with the birthday of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to whom the mayor paid tribute.
Wahab also announced plans to develop more recreational spots in Ibrahim Hyderi and Malir, further enhancing leisure opportunities for Karachiites. Developed through a public-private partnership within a six-month period, the resort, according to Wahab, demonstrates the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s commitment to providing quality recreational facilities. He highlighted the administration’s focus on promoting economic growth by creating employment opportunities and enhancing the city’s beauty.
Besides the resort, the mayor outlined other endeavors, including the cleaning of 46 major drains to mitigate flooding during monsoon season, a beautification project for II Chundrigar Road, and preservation efforts for historical buildings like Denso Hall, Empress Market, and Frere Hall.
A mangrove conservation area is also being developed to raise public awareness about environmental protection. Wahab emphasized the importance of these projects in improving Karachi’s public image, stating, “When Karachi runs, Pakistan runs.” The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, and other officials.
