The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave advisory warning of significantly abovenormal temperatures across the country, particularly in the southern and central regions, through April 30.
According to the PMD, daytime temperatures in Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan are expected to remain 5 to 7°C above average. In upper parts of the country, including Islamabad, upper and central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and GilgitBaltistan, temperatures may rise 4 to 6°C above seasonal norms.
Most parts of the country are likely to experience hot and dry weather on Wednesday, with extreme heat expected in central and southern regions. Gusty winds are also likely to affect plain areas during the afternoon.
In the past 24 hours, weather remained hot and dry in most regions, with extreme heat recorded in the south. The highest temperature was reported in Shaheed Benazirabad at 49°C, followed by 48°C in Rahim Yar Khan, Khairpur, Padidan, Rohri, and Dadu.
For Islamabad and its surrounding areas, hot and dry conditions are forecast on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to remain 4 to 6°C above normal. Similar weather is expected across most districts of Punjab, with particularly intense heat in southern parts and gusty winds during the afternoon.
Sindh is forecast to remain extremely hot and dry, with winds or dust storms likely in the afternoon. Temperatures could be 5 to 7°C above average.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts are expected to remain hot and dry, with southern regions experiencing more intense heat. Dustraising winds are possible in the plains, while evening or nighttime rain accompanied by thunder is possible in areas around Dera Ismail Khan and adjacent regions.
Balochistan is also forecast to remain hot and dry, with expected rain and thunder in Barkhan, Zhob, and nearby areas in the evening or night.
In Kashmir and GilgitBaltistan, warm and dry conditions are likely during the day. However, isolated thunderstorm activity is possible in Kashmir during the evening or night.
Authorities have advised the public to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, particularly vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and outdoor workers.
