In a significant move to rescue Pakistan’s struggling cinema sector, a high-powered Prime Minister’s Committee, led by Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik, convened for the first time on Friday to chart a course for the industry’s revival.
The inaugural session brought together key government figures, including Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division Aurangzeb Khan Khichi and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Culture and Heritage Huzaifa Rehman. Senior representatives from the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting, and Federal Education and Professional Training, also participated.
The committee’s primary agenda involved a thorough review of the existing institutional and regulatory structures governing the nation’s film production, distribution, and exhibition sectors.
Participants deliberated on strategies to improve coordination between different government ministries and to foster sustainable expansion within the national film industry.
During the meeting, Dr. Malik emphasized that rejuvenating the country’s film and cinema landscape is crucial. He stated that a vibrant movie industry is vital for nurturing cultural expression, growing the creative economy, and powerfully amplifying national storytelling.
The minister further highlighted the necessity of adapting to global cinematic trends. He called for the promotion of digital platforms, robust support for indigenous content creation, and the encouragement of films that showcase Pakistan’s unique diversity and cultural richness on the international stage.
