The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recognised Pakistan’s significant expertise in the peaceful application of nuclear technology, with its Director General noting the country is well-positioned to assist other member states in the field.

The commendation came from IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Vienna International Centre today. Mr Grossi acknowledged the high calibre of Pakistan”s engineers, scientists, and technicians and appreciated the nation”s contributions to the work of the IAEA, particularly in the domains of nuclear safety and security.

According to information by MOIB today, during the discussion, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing for the IAEA’s mission to promote the responsible use of nuclear technology. He highlighted its vital applications in areas including cancer diagnosis and treatment, agriculture, power generation, and various industrial uses.

The Prime Minister praised the robust partnership between Pakistan and the international organisation, observing that the relationship was reciprocal. He noted that while Pakistan benefits from the IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Programme, it also actively contributes to the agency’s objectives.
