Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that illegal constructions in slum areas have been immediately stopped. Orders have been issued for action against illegal constructions in Hasrat Mohani Colony, Mehmoodabad Nala, and Ghousia Colony.
According to a KMC information on Saturday, the public should not be involved in any illegal activities; otherwise, they will be responsible for their own losses if they get involve in any illegal construction, leasing, or other matters.
KMC employees found involved in illegal activities will face anti-corruption cases and will also be dismissed from their jobs. He stated this on Saturday while presiding over a meeting of the KMC Katchi Abadies Department at his office. Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, Senior Director Katchi Abadies Department Faraz Anwar Sheikh, and all relevant officers attended the meeting.
Wahab directed that maps of KMC’s 202 Katchi Abadies should be published on the KMC website. Public property is for the public, and all related procedures should be transparent. Any type of construction on drains is illegal and should be stopped immediately. Mayor Karachi stated that constructing multi-story buildings, petrol pumps, and CNG stations in slum areas is illegal, and immediate action should be taken against illegal constructions in these areas.
He further added that whatever has happened to this city over the past 40 years is unbearable. No more illegal activities will be tolerated, but full support will be given to officers working in the interest of the city and KMC. Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that under SLGA 2013, KMC has the authority to freeze illegal constructions, impose fines, and demolish these structures.
