Karachi: At the Digital Pakistan session at Davos, Arsen Tomsky, the Founder and CEO of inDrive, highlighted the pivotal role of mobility and fair-tech in advancing Pakistan's digital transformation. He emphasized the country's potential for growth and the necessary steps to foster an inclusive digital economy through fair choice. According to InDrive, the session featured a panel of notable speakers, including Maria Basso of the World Economic Forum, Khalifa AlShamsi of eand life, Zarrar Sehgal of Pathfinder Group, and Muhammad Salman Ali of VRG.
Tomsky identified Pakistan as a key market in inDrive's global mission to address injustice. He pointed to the nation's young demographic, entrepreneurial spirit, and resilience as significant assets. "We see ourselves as a long-term partner in Pakistan's digital economy, enabling livelihoods, supporting communities, and building technology that makes everyday services more accessible and fair," he stated.
He addressed the rapid but uneven development of Pakistan's digital economy, noting the importance of ride-hailing in this transformation. Since its entry into the market in 2021, inDrive has become the leading ride-hailing application in Pakistan, operating in over 20 cities for urban rides and more than 200 cities for intercity travel. This expansion supports mobility, productivity, and flexible earning opportunities on a large scale.
Tomsky also outlined inDrive's ambitions to evolve into a Super App, encompassing services like grocery delivery, freight, and fintech. "By offering multiple earning streams and keeping commissions low, we aim to make digital participation sustainable for drivers, students, and small businesses over time," he explained.
Citing a recent study by Oxford Economics, Tomsky highlighted that fare negotiation in price-sensitive markets like Pakistan enhances efficiency. He noted that flexible pricing led to more completed trips, as it keeps fares affordable. He concluded by stressing the importance of fairness-driven design for sustained digital adoption, emphasizing transparency and agency as key factors in building trust and fostering long-term engagement.
