IOK Bar team reconstituted to defend Art 35-A

Srinagar, March 05, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association has reconstituted a team of its members, who will represent the Bar Association before the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday and Thursday, when a bunch of petitions filed for scrapping of Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution are likely to come up for consideration before the apex court. A statement issued by HCBA said that the reconstituted team members include Mian Abdul Qayoom, Mohammad Ashraf Butt, Z A Shah, Z A Qureshi, R A Jan, Manzoor Ahmad Dar and N A Ronga.

The statement said that the matter had been shown listed in the weekly cause list issued for March 06 and 07 (Wednesday and Thursday) but it has not been shown as yet in the daily list of March 06. “But there is every possibility of the matter being listed in the Supplementary Cause List of 6th of March, 2019 and/or daily list of 7th of March, 2019 and as such all the members of the reconstituted team have been directed to remain present before the Supreme Court on these dates, accordingly,” the HCBA said.

Meanwhile, the HCBA members at a meeting in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the declaring of Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir as an unlawful association by the Indian government and the seizing and sealing of its properties and freezing bank accounts. It demanded immediate release of Jamaat properties and unfreezing of its bank accounts.
