Karachi Drone surveillance to begin soon under Karachi Safe City Project

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar announced today that drone surveillance under the Safe City Project for Karachi will commence soon. He directed that all check posts at the province’s entry and exit points remain on high alert.

Furthermore, the minister ordered an intensified crackdown against scrap dealers and other elements involved in the buying and selling of stolen mobile phones, aiming to dismantle the networks that support street crime.

During the same meeting, Inspector General (IG) Sindh, Javed Alam Odho, reported that street crime has decreased compared to last year, but remains “the biggest challenge of the time.”

The provincial police chief, providing an update on other criminal activities, stated that extortion cases have been “almost resolved.” He clarified that two key extortionists are currently in Iran, while the remaining culprits have been apprehended in an injured state.

Mr. Odho also reported a decrease in the theft and snatching of two and four-wheeled vehicles compared to last year’s figures.

Regarding anti-narcotics operations, the IG revealed that major drug mafias are on the police’s radar. He confirmed that in addition to arrests, authorities are also in the process of sealing properties belonging to these criminal organizations.
