Karachi Express train derails, killing one, injuring 40

SUKKUR:One person was killed and 40 others were injured when a Karachi Express train derailed near near Rohri in the wee hours of Sunday.

According to rescue sources, the Karachi Express train was on its way to Lahore from Karachi when its eight bogies derailed near Rohri. As a result, a woman Uzma was killed and 40 people were injured. There was hue and cry soon after the accident, villagers told PPI.

The train service was suspended on both tracks for hours, they said. An official said that all the Punjab-bound trains were halted at different stations while seven trains coming to Karachi were also stopped at different sections of the route.

He said the PR teams had cleared the Down track while work was being done to restore the Up track, adding it was expected that Up track would also be cleared within hours. The railway authorities has announced Rs1 million compensation for the deceased and Rs100,000 to Rs50,000 each for the injured.
