Lahore Intensifies Measures to Enforce Ban on One-Dish Policy at Weddings


The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has reiterated its commitment to strictly enforcing the ban on serving more than one dish at wedding functions across the province. According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, during the 6th meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, directives were issued to ensure compliance with the one-dish rule to curb excessive spending and promote simplicity. The cabinet also moved forward with several welfare measures, including the restoration of free cancer medication supply and enhancing support for farmers with a direct cash subsidy proposal under review. Further discussions during the meeting covered significant infrastructural and social initiatives, such as the establishment of Nawaz Sharif IT City in Lahore, backed by a Rs. 10 billion seed fund, and the authorization for extensive water supply and drainage projects contingent on local government approval. The government also acknowl
edged the economic contributions of foreign direct investments, particularly highlighting a $350 million investment in a new cement plant project in Chakwal district. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the administration’s focus on environmental and public health concerns by accelerating anti-smog measures and extending support for communities affected by natural disasters, such as the landslide in Parina village near Murree. The cabinet session concluded with multiple approvals aimed at improving governance and public service delivery, including the adoption of new policies for the appointment of vice-chancellors in universities and the formation of a high-level committee on smog management.
