Larkana trains be restored, demands civil society

LARKANA: Members of Civil society held a protest at Jinnah Bagh here on Sunday for the restoration of trains at Larkana railway station, where they raised banners in their hands and shouted slogans in favour of their just demand.

Social welfare workers Abdul Razzaq Dero, Peeral Solangi, Adeel Dero, Aqeel Abro and others said that the train service on the railway track has been closed for a long time due to the recent stormy rains in Sindh. They said that the people of the home district of the former prime minister of the country, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto have been left at the mercy of private transporters who are looting the public at their will without any intervention by the Regional Transport Authority.

They said that the poor and the middle class are under the blame of the transport, which is robbing the citizens with both their hands with high fares, while the trains have become dysfunctional, which deprived the residents of Larkana of the facilities available to others despite having railway tracks.

They said that the Larkana railway station built during the reign of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto used to receive Khushal Khan Khattak Express, Bolan Mail, Qalandar Express and other passenger trains, as well as freight trains for trade, but due to the inattention of the rulers Larkana railway station is looking deserted.

They demanded PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the federal government to look into the basic issue and take immediate notice and restore train service at Larkana railway station and provide relief to the poor people.
