Pakistan and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have solidified a financial agreement aimed at addressing the severe sewage and wastewater management challenges in Karachi, a move expected to significantly enhance water security for the city”s expanding populace.
According to an official information today, the declaration was inked on the sidelines of the 15th Pak-EU Joint Commission meeting held in the Belgian capital. This agreement formalizes the EIB”s funding for the comprehensive Karachi Water Infrastructure Framework project.
The initiative is set to substantially expand the supply of safe water and improve overall wastewater management. It reflects the nation’s commitment to modernizing essential urban services and promoting climate-resilient infrastructure.
The accord demonstrates the continued momentum in Pakistan-EU cooperation and highlights shared priorities in sustainable development, effective public service delivery, and environmental resilience.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Muhammad Humair Karim welcomed the EIB”s increased engagement in Pakistan. He underscored the importance of deepening cooperation with European partners to address critical development and infrastructure needs.
