MAJU launches Economics and Police Development degree program

KARACHI:A major obstacle to Pakistan’s economics development is the inadequacy of funding provided by International organizations and friendly countries for the completion of development projects. Therefore, we need to provide better education and training to the students of economics in such a way that after completing their education and on the start of their working life, may provide useful assistance to the top officials involved in policy making for the development of the country.

This was stated by head of Finance and Economics d Department, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi (MAJU) Dr Muhammad Mairaj while presiding over a meeting called to review curriculum of newly started BS-Economics and Policy Development degree program from the next semester by his department.

The experts who attended the meeting included Dr Rizwan Ul Hassan, Dr. Furrukh Mahmood, Dr. Hina Fatima and Afaq Ali Khan from MAJU while Dr. Khurram Shahnawaz of Federal Urdu University, Dr. Liaqat Ali of Bahria University and Salman Ahmed of State Bank of Pakistan as external members.

Dr Mairaj told the participant that BS- Economics and Policy Development for year duration degree program had been launched with an objective to develop professionals who could understand and provide an economic solution to the economic issues at the national and international level. He said that this educational program had been designed for students who wish to acquire a robust and in-depth understanding of economics in the light of real world problems.

He said that consequently, this program enables students to suggest a logical solution with a reliable and effective policy. Dr Mairaj emphasized that BS-Economics and Policy Development program is focused on developing consistent, quantitate, analytical and research skill to make quality decisions. He told that this degree program will help the students to think clearly while applying economic and policy development concepts to solve real-world problems and opportunities.

The experts expressed their satisfaction over the launching of a very useful degree program at MAJU which is not being taught at any University of the province presently. They also suggested some proposals for the overall improving in curriculum.
