Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Sunday honoured the city wardens and fire brigade staff with Tamgha-e-Karachi for sacrificing their lives for the protection of citizens’ lives and property.

Speaking at the ceremony held to pay glowing tribute to the martyrs, Mr Wahab said that individuals who had rendered services for the city were valuable assets for them. He paid tribute to the martyrs of the City Warden and Fire Brigade Departments.

Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, elected representatives, and departmental heads of KMC were also present at the event. Wahab remarked that the heroes of today’s ceremony are those who made sacrifices.

He further stated that the decision to honor these individuals and martyrs was made by the City Council members, and this was the first ceremony organized by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. It was also decided that this ceremony would be held annually on January 5 to appreciate those who have contributed to making the city greater.

Wahab reiterated that no service is greater than the sacrifice of one’s life. He assured that alongside infrastructural improvements and development works, efforts to promote Karachi’s cultural and heritage activities will continue. The restoration of the city’s historic buildings and sites will also be undertaken.

The Karachi mayor stressed that Karachi belongs to all its residents, and services will be rendered without discrimination of any kind. He highlighted ongoing development works across Karachi’s seven districts and declared 2025 as the year of Karachi’s development, affirming that KMC has sufficient funds for all projects. Rejecting past complaints about lack of authority or funds, he pledged that promises made to the public would be fulfilled.
