Mayor Adams Hosts Pakistan Heritage Day in New York

Pakistan Heritage Day was marked at Gracie Mansion, the Mayor’s official residence, where Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, used the high-profile observance to stress that Pakistan is fully capable of defending its sovereignty while continuing to pursue peace, progress and cooperation with the global community.

The event brought together Pakistani diplomats, city officials and members of the Pakistani-American diaspora for a ceremony recognizing cultural contributions and bilateral ties.

In his address, Ambassador Ahmad commended the role of the Pakistani community in strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations and framed the celebration as an opportunity to highlight both national resolve and a commitment to international partnership.

Aamer Ahmed Atozai, Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, thanked Mayor Eric Adams for acknowledging the community’s achievements and for marking Pakistan Heritage Day. He noted that Pakistan’s identity extends beyond its 1947 independence to ancient civilizations, pluralistic traditions and a rich cultural tapestry that continues to inspire worldwide.

Mayor Adams praised the Pakistani-American community’s contributions to New York’s social, cultural and economic fabric and reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to deepen engagement with global communities, including the city’s vibrant Pakistani diaspora.

Organizers described the occasion as both a cultural commemoration and a moment to spotlight the community’s civic and economic participation in municipal life.

The observance at Gracie Mansion underscores growing municipal recognition of New York’s diverse immigrant populations and follows diplomatic calls for cooperative international relations anchored in mutual respect.
