Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar asserted today that the government fully believes in the fundamental, democratic, and constitutional right to freedom of expression.

In a statement, he extended congratulations to the newly elected officials of the Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA). The Information Minister congratulated MB Soomro on being elected President, Usman Khan Kakar as Vice President, and Naveed Akbar as Secretary. He also acknowledged Aurangzeb Kakar as Joint Secretary, Javed Hussain as Information Secretary, and Shakir Abbasi as Finance Secretary, along with the new members of the governing body.

Mr. Tarar emphasized that a free, active, and vibrant media is essential for the reinforcement of democracy and the advancement of democratic values within the nation.

He remarked that the success of the newly chosen office bearers is a clear reflection of the confidence placed in them by the journalistic community. The minister voiced his optimism that the new leadership will further elevate high professional standards of journalism.

The Information Minister also expressed hope that the PRA would maintain its active role in protecting the rights of media professionals, commending the association”s ongoing efforts to bring parliamentary proceedings to the public.

Separately, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also felicitated the new PRA office-bearers. He noted that their electoral victory demonstrates the trust that parliamentary reporters have in their leadership.

The Speaker conveyed his hope that the newly elected body will play a proactive part in addressing the challenges and resolving the problems faced by journalists covering the parliament.
