Merchant accounts for SME sector soon

KARACHI:The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver has informed the SME sector that Bank Alfalah has offered to open “Merchant Accounts” for their members who wish to avail the services and facilities of e-commerce.

UNISAME had requested several banks for this facility and Bank Alfalah has been the first bank to oblige the SMEs and invited UNISAME members to avail the facility set up by them for the gateway to facilitate ecommerce. On Friday the 17th April a joint meeting is scheduled on social media network with SMEDA-UNISAME and Bank Alfalah to elaborate the features of the Alfa gateway for the benefit of the ecommerce merchants.

UNISAME felicitates Bank Alfalah for this initiative and for promoting ecommerce on modern lines. Meantime UNISAME has urged the governments both federal and provincial to allow on line orders for delivery at doorsteps by ecommerce merchants of not only essential items but all items as social distancing protocol will be maintained at all cost.

UNISAME experts urged the government to comprehend the fact that when they have allowed ecommerce of few selected essential items there is no harm in allowing other household items for life to go on as long as safety measures of social distancing, sanitization and hygiene are maintained by the delivery personnel.

Ecommerce will promote economic activity and businesses of SMEs will go on. The lockdown will also not be disturbed as deliveries will be given from warehouses /storerooms and shops will continue to remain closed to discourage gatherings, said Thaver.
