Mirpurkhas police arrest nationwide cybercrime gang’s ringleader

Mirpurkhas police on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended a nationwide cybercrime gang ringleader involved in looting people through fake Whatsapp, Facebook and other social media apps and platforms.

According to a police report, the arrested accused, Muhammad Anas, a resident of Okara, was found involved in creating fake WhatsApp, Facebook and other accounts in the names of well-known personalities using fake SIMs.

The Mirpurkhas police’s technical team, using cutting-edge technology, arrested Anas from Okara in Punjab. The police claimed that the accused revealed that he had been operating as part of an organized network that used fake SIM cards and social media profiles to extort money from the public. The group had been targeting people by posing as highly respected personalities from various districts, including Mirpurkhas.

The accused further admitted to selling sensitive personal information, including national identification cards, marriage certificates, travel histories, and other confidential details, in exchange for money, according to the police.

The police have seized hundreds of active SIM cards, social media accounts, and a mobile phone used in the operation. Further investigation into the crime was underway,
