The official YouTube channel for the National Assembly of Pakistan has gone off-air, ceasing all live broadcasts and becoming inaccessible to the public just as the House passed two controversial bills and following reports that the new Opposition Leader’s speech was repeatedly muted during a live stream.
A report by Free and Fair Election Network said today that a primary channel, @NationalAssemblyOfPakistan, which had thousands of subscribers and regularly broadcasted House proceedings, has been unavailable since January 21, 2026. Direct links to the channel now display a ‘This page is not available’ message, and it no longer appears in search results. The inability to access the page even with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) suggests a global takedown.
The blackout meant the public could not view the proceedings on January 21 and January 22. During this period, the Lower House passed the Elections Amendment Bill, 2026, which aims to restrict the public disclosure of parliamentarians” asset details, and the Corporate Social Responsibility Bill, 2026.
The channel’s disappearance follows the recent notification of the new Leader of the Opposition. According to at least one media report, during his inaugural address to the House which was streamed on the now-vanished channel, his speech was muted on three separate occasions.
Coinciding with the primary channel’s removal, a new and largely empty channel, @NaofPakistan, has appeared on the National Assembly website. It currently has only eight subscribers and a single video.
While the National Assembly”s other digital platforms, including its website and accounts on Facebook and Instagram, remain active, the PTV Parliament YouTube channel has also not livestreamed the Lower House sittings since January 20. In contrast, the Senate”s official YouTube channel continues to operate normally.
To date, no official statement or explanation has been issued by the National Assembly secretariat regarding the channel”s unavailability.
