The National Highway Authority (NHA) has been directed to maintain a state of high alert in preparation for an anticipated new wave of severe snowfall, following a statement from the Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan. The minister emphasised that ensuring uninterrupted public access to highways is a paramount national concern.
According to official information today, the directive comes after the minister commended NHA teams for their performance in keeping national transport arteries operational during recent extreme weather. Mr Khan acknowledged the dedication of the authority’s personnel in ensuring continuous connectivity amidst challenging conditions.
In a special statement, Abdul Aleem Khan paid tribute to the field personnel working in the difficult terrains of Murree, Chitral, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. “Our hardworking workers and field staff are the true assets of our organisation, ensuring road restoration through their tireless efforts,” the minister stated.
He highlighted that timely interventions, such as the continuous sprinkling of salt and the strategic deployment of heavy machinery on the Murree Expressway and other major routes, were crucial in preventing accidents and upholding public safety.
Looking ahead, the minister has urged travellers and tourists intending to visit affected regions to cooperate fully with field staff to help facilitate a safe and smooth journey for all.
