KARACHI: The Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University Prof. Anila Atta-ur-Rehman visited the gastro wards established in Children’s Hospital and Civil Hospital Blocks of the Chandka Medical College Hospital here on Thursday and took details about the facilities provided to the patients and the people accompanying them.
She was informed by Prof. Shanti Lal that about 2,500 patients are admitted in three wards of the children’s hospital in a week after the monsoon flash floods, and they are being provided with full facilities and medicines are given to them. He said that this is the result of the hard work of all the staff and it is a record that no patient has died. He said that pamphlets are being distributed by the university to protect against epidemic diseases and various teams are going to the flood affected areas and conducting awareness campaigns to prevent epidemic diseases.
During the visit to the Gastro ward in Civil Hospital, the CMCH Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gulzar Ahmed Tunio, gave a briefing and told her that the gastro ward established on the basis of emergency has treated about 10,000 patients and given them medicines during the current week.
On the other hand, the university faculty and students went to various relief camps to help the flood victims and distributed food and necessities to about 100 families. At the gate of Chandka Medical College, camps were also set up to help flood victims.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College, Sukkur, also organized a free medical camp in Araen village in which 13 consultant doctors treated a total of 500 patients free of cost and gave them food and other food items along with free medicines. Diarrhea, skin, eye, throat and malaria patients were also treated free of charge in the camp. Vice Chancellor Prof. Anila Ata-ur-Rehman said that at present you are all doing Jihad and you have to fight Jihad like a soldier of the first line.
