OIC chief renews appeal for urgent humanitarian aid to storm-hit Mozambique

Jeddah Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen renewed his appeal to all the member states and their respective civil society and philanthropic organizations to provide an urgent humanitarian assistance and support to the Government and people of Mozambique, which was severely hit by the Tropical Cyclone Idai.

The storm caused extensive damages and massive flooding in Sofala and Manica provinces, in central-eastern Mozambique, between 14 and 16 March, which resulted in thousands of deaths and an endless number of homeless.

Al-Othaimeen noted that Cyclone Idai has brought untold suffering to the Mozambican people, who are in desperate need of food, medical supplies, shelter, electric supply, communications tools, sanitation and civil engineering equipment to deal with this massive and daunting humanitarian catastrophe.
