Law enforcement agencies have detained more than 958 individuals from Karachi’s East, West, and South zones following extensive operations against crime over the past week, which included 21 armed encounters with alleged dacoits.
According to a press release issued on Monday from the office of Additional IG Karachi, as part of a major operation against criminal elements, 37 suspects were arrested after exchanges of fire during encounters with district police. 22 of those arrested in these encounters were injured.
A large cache of illegal weapons was seized during the week-long campaign. 32 different types of weapons were confiscated from the accused involved in armed encounters. In total, more than 115 illegal weapons and ammunition were recovered from all arrested individuals.
Numerous stolen vehicles were also recovered in these operations. Authorities recovered a total of 19 snatched or stolen motorcycles and five larger vehicles from different areas of the city.
A large quantity of narcotics was also seized. The recovered drugs include 237 kilograms and 939 grams of hashish, as well as 9 kilograms and 553 grams of ice, crystal, and heroin, worth millions of rupees.
A spokesperson for the Karachi Police, in a press release issued from the office of Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, stated that such measures will continue to eliminate crime, restore law and order, and protect the public.
