Overseas Kashmiris today observed Accession to Pakistan Day and renewed their commitment to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian rule, based on the resolution endorsed on 19 July 1947, which supported the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan.
On this historic day in 1947, representatives of the Kashmiri people gathered at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Abi Guzar, Srinagar, under the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference. They unanimously passed a resolution demanding the accession of Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan, which continues to inspire their ongoing struggle.
In view of this commemoration, various Hurriyat organizations have appealed to international institutions, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to save the Kashmiri people from India’s ongoing state aggression. These groups are calling for decisive actions for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with existing UN resolutions.
The commemoration of Accession to Pakistan Day serves as a poignant reminder of the Kashmiri people’s enduring aspirations for self-determination and affiliation with Pakistan, and of the ongoing conflict.
