Pakistan and the Maldives have reinforced their commitment to enhancing their strategic partnership, with top-level discussions centered on bolstering bilateral defence and security collaboration amid an evolving regional security landscape, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced in a statement Friday.
The high-level dialogue took place during an official visit to the Maldives by Pakistan’s Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. The General held separate meetings with key Maldivian figures, including President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Defence Minister Mr. Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, and the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy.
During the engagements, the leaders conferred on matters of mutual interest and the shifting global security situation. Discussions specifically explored avenues to fortify military-to-military engagements between the two nations, with both sides reaffirming a shared dedication to a deeper strategic alliance.
The civil and military leadership of the Maldives expressed high regard for the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces. They also formally acknowledged the significant sacrifices made by the Pakistani military in its extensive fight against terrorism.
Earlier in the visit, upon his arrival at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Headquarters, General Mirza was formally welcomed with a Guard of Honour presented by a smartly turned-out contingent.
