Pakistan today vehemently denounced the interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli forces, marking a tense escalation in regional dynamics. The flotilla, consisting of over 40 civilian ships and carrying approximately 500 international activists, was on a mission to provide essential humanitarian aid to the besieged residents of Gaza.
In a forthright statement, the Foreign Office articulated that the unlawful detention of activists onboard the flotilla exemplifies a blatant breach of international law and humanitarian statutes by Israel. This act, it emphasized, jeopardizes the safety of innocent civilians engaged in a mission of mercy.
The Pakistani government condemned this act as part of Israel”s persistent pattern of hostility and its unlawful blockade of Gaza, which has inflicted severe hardship and deprivation on over two million Palestinians. The obstruction of humanitarian relief, it argued, constitutes a serious violation of Israel”s duties as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Reiterating its stance, Pakistan called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across all occupied Palestinian territories. It insisted on the termination of Gaza”s blockade, unrestricted access for humanitarian aid, the immediate release of all detained humanitarian workers and activists, and the adherence to international law and human rights conventions. Furthermore, it demanded accountability for Israel”s repeated transgressions.
Pakistan reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate quest for self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
