Pakistan Denounces Israel’s Ceasefire Violations and ‘Illegal’ West Bank Expansion

Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s repeated ceasefire violations in Gaza, which have led to over a thousand Palestinian casualties, and its “gravely disturbing” illegal decisions to expand control over the West Bank, labelling the actions a clear violation of international law.

Addressing a United Nations Security Council briefing, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar stressed that while intensified diplomatic efforts are underway to end the conflict, Israel”s continued actions undermine these initiatives and threaten prospects for a lasting peace, according to an official information today.

The Foreign Minister highlighted that Pakistan is working closely with a “Group of Eight Arab and Islamic countries”-comprising Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Trkiye-to achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities and a just resolution. The group has also expressed appreciation for peace efforts led by US President Donald Trump.

In joint statements earlier in the month, the group of eight nations condemned in the strongest terms Israeli measures aimed at imposing “unlawful Israeli sovereignty, entrenching settlement activity, designating lands as so called “state land” and enforcing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank.”

Senator Dar affirmed the group”s position that these illegal measures are “null and void,” constituting a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as UNSC Resolution 2334 and the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.

The humanitarian situation was described as unacceptable, with hundreds of Palestinians killed since the ceasefire began. The statement noted that UN premises have been attacked and that restrictions on international humanitarian organisations continue to impede the flow of essential aid.

Pakistan called for the full and faithful implementation of Security Council Resolution 2803, demanding the ceasefire be fully respected with the aim of a permanent end to hostilities. The minister insisted on the need for “safe, sustained and unimpeded humanitarian assistance at the right scale” and an immediate start to Gaza”s reconstruction without any annexation or forced displacement.

In pursuit of these objectives, Pakistan has joined the Board of Peace (BoP), a body endorsed by Resolution 2803. The nation will participate in the BoP”s inaugural meeting with the objective of reinforcing diplomatic efforts towards a permanent ceasefire, scaling up aid, and advancing a credible political process.

The ultimate goal, Senator Dar stated, is the realisation of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous state of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, a solution supported by the international community.

Reiterating Pakistan”s “unwavering” solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Foreign Minister concluded that there can be no durable peace without justice and no sustainable solution without the realisation of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
