Pakistan Enhances Hajj Pilgrim Support with New Facilities and Technology

Islamabad, In an effort to enhance the Hajj experience, the Federal Government of Pakistan has introduced several new measures to ensure better facilities for pilgrims participating in this year’s Hajj under the Government Hajj Scheme. These initiatives include significant cost reductions, the introduction of a new shorter Hajj duration, and the launch of innovative digital tools to streamline the pilgrimage process.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Syed Ata-ur-Rehman, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, announced at a news conference in Islamabad that 69,000 pilgrims will perform Hajj this year under the government’s scheme. The government has cut Hajj expenses by 100,000 rupees per pilgrim and negotiated lower airfares with airlines. Additionally, a new Sponsored Hajj Scheme has been launched and is set for improvements.

Dr. Rehman detailed several technological advancements aimed at facilitating the pilgrims. A significant introduction is the Hajj App, which will centralize communications and must be installed by all pilgrims on their smartphones to minimize complications during the pilgrimage. A pre-installed SIM card will also be provided to each pilgrim to help manage communication needs in Saudi Arabia, particularly for accessing WhatsApp.

The ministry has also standardized the size and color of bags for pilgrims to ease identification and reduce mishandling and losses. For added support, Hajj Assistants (Moavineen) have been selected through a new transparent and merit-based system, with an app developed to monitor their performance.

In terms of accommodation and transportation, the Secretary revealed that buildings in Makkah Mukaramah and Madina Munawwarah have been secured well in advance. Pilgrims will be housed centrally in Madina and enjoy high-quality transportation in Makkah, ensuring their comfort throughout the pilgrimage.

These enhancements are part of the government’s commitment to making the Hajj as accessible, comfortable, and spiritually rewarding as possible for all participants from Pakistan.
