Pakistan Signals Major Labour Policy Overhaul to Shape Global Market

Pakistan has announced its commitment to modernising its labour policies and enhancing workforce skills, signalling a strategic push to play a more influential role in the global employment landscape.

The declaration was made by Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, while representing the country at the third edition of the Global Labour Market Conference (GLMC) held in Riyadh, according to the ministry information today.

The minister articulated Pakistan’s resolve to focus on high-growth industries, specifically identifying construction, healthcare, information and communication technology (ICT), and logistics as key areas. He also highlighted the nation’s attention towards the development of emerging green jobs.

Mr Hussain underscored the importance of ethical recruitment principles and worker-centred mobility, emphasising the need for a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to migration and skills policy.

Reaffirming the nation’s readiness for international collaboration, the minister confirmed that Pakistan is prepared to deepen cooperation with global partners to co-design skills pathways, digital mobility platforms, and ethical recruitment models.

The overarching objective, as stated at the conference, is to translate policy ambitions into tangible employment outcomes and contribute to the formation of a fair, transparent, and resilient international labour market.
