Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States has accused India of posing serious threats to regional peace through aggression in May 2025 and unlawfully suspending the Indus Waters Treaty.
Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, addressing prominent American think tanks, termed India’s action an “unacceptable” and “dangerous practice of using water as a weapon,” urging the international community to take notice, according to information by MOIB today.
Speaking to representatives of leading US intellectual and policy circles, the ambassador stated that the events of May 2025 proved to the world that Pakistan “cannot be coerced when it comes to its sovereignty and national dignity.”
He also emphasised the Kashmir issue, stating that a just and lasting resolution of the dispute, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, is crucial for regional and global stability.
During the interaction, which covered Pakistan-US bilateral relations and the regional situation, Ambassador Sheikh described the improved ties between the two nations as “neither optional nor temporary,” calling their sustainability an “important necessity for the future.” He noted that 2025 had proved to be a year of key transformations in the relationship.
The envoy highlighted that the partnership has been productive in advancing mutual interests and contributing to global peace, with enhanced cooperation in minerals, energy, and information technology giving the ties a new dimension.
Detailed discussions were also held on the impact of terrorism originating from Afghanistan. The ambassador reaffirmed that Pakistan”s leadership and people are fully determined to eradicate the menace, underscoring the country”s constructive and positive role in addressing the challenge.
Presenting Pakistan”s economic perspective, Sheikh said the nation possesses a strong capacity for profitable partnerships. He pointed to Pakistan’s demographic advantage, with over 65 percent of its population comprising youth, which holds significant potential to help meet human resource shortages in the United States and globally.
He invited American investors and the manufacturing sector to benefit from Pakistan’s competitive advantages, including lower costs and better quality.
The ambassador reiterated that Pakistan has consistently prioritised the diplomatic resolution of disputes.
