The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) today lauded the government”s successful organisation of the Basant festival, positioning the cultural event as a vital platform for expanding international tourism and deepening diplomatic ties with China.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain remarked that the festival’s smooth execution demonstrates the administration”s dedication to promoting cultural activities in a secure and responsible fashion. He emphasised that such events are crucial for reinforcing national identity, invigorating the tourism sector, and enhancing Pakistan”s soft image on the global stage, signalling the nation”s stability and cultural openness to the international community.
The Chamber”s Senior Vice President suggested that with strategic planning, Basant could transform into an internationally acclaimed cultural landmark. He specifically pointed to the potential of inviting foreign representatives, particularly artists and cultural groups from China, to foster greater people-to-people connections, advance mutual cultural understanding, and solidify diplomatic relations between the two allied nations beyond existing economic partnerships.
Highlighting the economic dimension, PCJCCI Vice President Zafar Iqbal noted that cultural celebrations provide a significant boost to the local economy by supporting artisans, small-scale traders, and the hospitality industry. He proposed that well-managed, recurring cultural events could supplement the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by cultivating a favourable environment for tourism, creative industries, and cross-cultural business engagement.
Secretary General Salahuddin Hanif reiterated the Chamber”s encouragement for the government to continue its support for Pakistan”s cultural heritage through safe and inclusive festivals. He advocated for structured cultural exchange initiatives, aligned with bilateral cooperation frameworks, to deepen understanding and fortify the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.
The PCJCCI expressed confidence that the government would move to institutionalise such events, ensuring they are celebrated sustainably to promote social cohesion, international goodwill, and long-term economic prosperity.
