PM Lauds WB’s $20BN Commitment for Sustainable Development

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said today the World Bank’s pledge of providing $20 billion under the Country Partnership Framework for the next ten years to support inclusive and sustainable development is also a welcoming step.

This he said while presiding over the Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad. He said under this Country Partnership Framework, investment would be made in different social sectors of the country.

Sharif highlighted the strategic importance of the newly constructed Gwadar International Airport, which was built with a $230 million Chinese grant. He remarked that the airport is a gift from China that will benefit not only Balochistan but the entire nation. The Prime Minister also condemned those hindering the completion of the Gwadar Port, labeling such actions as antagonistic to Pakistan’s interests.

The Prime Minister noted a significant increase in IT exports, reaching $348 million in December of the previous year. He advocated for further efforts to boost IT exports, suggesting that the sector holds considerable potential for economic growth.

Additionally, the government is promoting the adoption of electric vehicles as part of its broader strategy for economic and environmental progress. Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the positive trajectory of economic indicators, attributing these improvements to the government’s stabilizing efforts. He also noted the government’s initiatives to enhance facilities for Pakistani pilgrims during the upcoming Hajj.

The Prime Minister commended the armed forces and the people of Pakistan for their sacrifices in combating Fitna-al-Khwarij, underscoring their dedication to the nation’s security and stability.
