KARACHI: A nine member delegation of senior doctors of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) from Karachi, under the leadership of Dr SM Qaisar Sajjad visited flood relief areas of Mirpurkhas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sindhri, Tando Jam, Barhoon Mail, Moula Katyar and Vasrio Village, where PMA branches have established medical camps,

The delegation carried essential medicines and other items with them which were distributed at these PMA camps. The doctors from Karachi, along with General Secretary PMA Sindh Dr. Zaman Baloch and local medics, examined the patients at the camps and provided them medicine.

PMA said in a statement that during the visit, it found that waterborne diseases including cholera, gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, typhoid, mosquito borne diseases (dengue and malaria), throat infection, conjunctivitis (eyes infection) and above all gastroenteritis was rapidly increasing. The children were mostly suffering from gastroenteritis and throat infection, it said and added that there were increasing number of cases of dengue.

PMA requested philanthropists, pharmaceutical companies and all people to donate them medicines immediately. Flood affectees have been rescued from flood and now we have to rescue them from diseases and hunger, it said.

Urgently required medicines at flood affected area are antibiotics, antipyretic, pain killer, medicine for diarrhea, vomiting, anti-malarial drugs, drugs for skin diseases, eye drops, ORS, water purification tablets (chlorine), mineral water and mosquito repellents. These medicines are instantly needed to treat the patients in affected areas.

PMA asked people to donate medicine at PMA Flood Relief Camp at PMA House, Sir Aga Khan III Road Karachi and also at PMA’s bank account (United Bank Limited (UBL), Account No. 00232099593.

Meanwhile, PMA in collaboration with Pakistan Eye Bank Society visited the remote area of Lakhra in Balochistan. It was very difficult to travel to such remote area. Doctors examined 970 patients in Lakhra and provided them medicine.
