Power employee’s protest against Modi regime’s Electricity Amendment Bill-2022 

Srinagar, August 09, 2022 (PPI-OT):Thousands of Power Sector employees and workers held a strong protest across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh against the Modi government’s move to introduce Electricity Amendment Bill-2022 in the Indian parliament, with an aim to hand over the sector to India-based businessmen associated with the Hindutva ideology.

The Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees and Engineers Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) held protests at all the district headquarters in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. A large number of Power sector employees came out on roads to lodge their protest against the move.

During the protest at Jammu, several senior members of the Coordination Committee, including Sachin Tickoo, Jaipal Sharma, Ashok Kumar, Jasbir Singh, Anil Slathia and others addressed the gathering. Similar protests were held in Srinagar, Islamabad, Baramulla, Kargil, Leh and others places of the occupied territory.

J and K Non Gazetted Electrical Employees Association also held a protest demonstration at Miran Sahib, Jammu against India’s Modi government to bring the Electricity Amendment Bill to parliament and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

Addressing a rally Gurmeet Singh senior leader at Jammu termed the bill as anti-people and anti-employees. He said through this bill Modi govt wants to hand over the entire power sector to the private players and license to loot this vital sector of the economy which will put the tremendous hardships on the common consumers, farmers and the industry.

Power Minister, RK Singh introduced the Bill and the opposition parties strongly opposed the introduction of the Bill in Parliament. Gupta said that the quest for profit and greater commercial orientation seem to be the only aim of the Modi government.
