Provincial Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Ali Malkani said on Friday that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would not allow the construction of more canals on the Indus River in Punjab under any circumstances.
“PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardar has also made it clear that no new canal on the Indus River can be constructed without Sindh’s consent,” he made these remarks during a media interaction at a SAFCO event, organized at Thatta Gymkhana.
Malkani further stated that the PPP had strongly opposed the construction of more canals on the Indus River. He informed that the PPP would not compromise on Sindh’s rights and recalled that the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution against amendments to the IRSA Act.
He said: “Water is life, so protecting the rights of the people of Sindh is the PPP’s top priority.” Malkani also noted that those who once dreamed of the Kalabagh Dam have failed in the past, and the PPP has consistently raised its voice on every platform to safeguard Sindh’s rights.
