President: (Media, MPs should play role in raising awareness about breast cancer: President)

Islamabad:The month of October started today (Thursday), is being observed as Breast Cancer Awareness Month known as Pinktober.

In her Video message, First lady Samina Alvi has urged women to regularly examine their breasts at their own which is an important way for early diagnosis of breast cancer.

She asked women to immediately consult with doctors if they find any changes in their breast. The first lady said that millions of women die every year due to lack of awareness and late diagnosis.

Meanwhile, in separate letters to Members of Parliaments (MPs) and Media persons, President Dr Arif Alvi asked to create awareness about breast cancer in Pakistan.

In his message about the month, President Dr Arif Ali said Media and MPs should play their active role in raising awareness about this sensitive issue. He said about 98% of women recover from the disease if diagnosed at the first stage. He said Pakistan has higher mortality rate than other South Asian countries because of lack of awareness about breast cancer.
