Protests erupt after driver, brother assaulted in IIOJK

Jammu, December 27, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, anti-India protests erupted after Toll Plaza personnel attacked and injured two persons including a taxi driver at Ban Toll Plaza in Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar highway. Such plazas have been installed by Delhi-based National Highways Authority in connivance with the local chapter of Bharatiya Janata Party to further extort Kashmiri people in the name of tax collection.

Situation turned ugly when heated arguments between a taxi-driver and staff of the plaza, mostly BJP workers, escalated into clashes, leaving taxi driver Muhammad Arif, and his young brother, Mohammed Abbas injured. They are residents of Dansal, Jammu district. It happened during morning hours when Arif was heading for Jammu Airport where he works as a driver. The incident triggered anti-India protests in the area.

Speaking to the media, the injured driver said that “The Toll Plaza staff abused me and they beat up me with batons miserably. There were around 50 people. Paramilitary personnel posted there did not come to my rescue.”

He said that the plaza staffers badly damaged his taxi. He said that when he informed his brother, he too reached there. It is worth mentioning here that every Kashmiri living outside the 20 kilometer is bound to pay the toll tax. The irony of the fact is that even the people living within the 20 kilometer radius of the so-called toll plazas are not exempted, and are forced to pay the money, at all costs.
