Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has expressed concern over the challenges faced by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) due to its alliance with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Speaking to the media during his visit to Okara late night, the governor urged PML-N to fulfill its written commitments with PPP to strengthen the coalition government. ‘We have made significant sacrifices for this alliance, but how long can PPP continue to bear the brunt? It is now time for PML-N to honour the agreements it has made with us,’ he urged.
The governor, who earlier inaugurated the Al-Kabeer Palace in the city, told media that both parties must work together for the coalition to move forward. ‘A partnership requires effort from both sides. PML-N must understand that constant reminders are not productive,’ he said.
Haider lauded the ongoing negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), scheduled for January 2, calling them a positive step towards resolving issues. ‘Matters that can be addressed at the table should not escalate to violence, street protests, or destructive confrontations,’ he stated.
Commenting on the deteriorating situation in Kurram, the governor criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for its lack of action. ‘Hundreds of innocent Muslims, including children, are being killed, yet the KP government seems indifferent.
He also endorsed Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s stance on the issue, urging the KP government to acknowledge its responsibilities. ‘Instead of political stunts like marches on Islamabad, KP leaders should address their own province’s crises,’ he added.
The governor called on all political parties to prioritize national interests over personal agendas. ‘Elections will come, and there will be winners and losers. For now, we must work towards the country’s stability and development to provide maximum relief to the people,’ he said.
The event was attended by local PPP officials, political leaders, and community members, who welcomed the governor with enthusiasm.
