Punjab govt calls Rangers to maintain law and order

LAHORE:The Punjab government Tuesday called Rangers for 15 days to maintain the law and order in the province amid PTI’s call for long march towards Islamabad on May 25.

According to a notification issued by the provincial government, the Rangers personnel will be deployed for security in the provincial capital for 15 days. “Anyone found playing havoc with the city’s peace would be taken into custody,” the notification stated. It further warned to detain those creating unrest in the city under 16 Sections of Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

All roads leading to Islamabad have been blocked and all kinds of transport stopped. The Punjab government has also asked transporters to submit the affidavit that they will not be providing their vehicles to the PTI long march otherwise their licenses will be cancelled.

While condemning death of an innocent police constable by the firing of PTI activists, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has dubbed Imran Khan as ‘terrorist’ lamenting that those who are accustomed to fire salvos of abusive language have started firing bullets now. The government has decided to shut down Motorway and GT Road keeping in view the PTI’s long march towards Islamabad. The Punjab government has also imposed section 144.
