Punjab Moves to Enhance Legal and Public Prosecution Systems


In another significant move, the Punjab government has taken a principal decision to overhaul its public prosecution system to ensure greater accountability and enhance the skill set of its legal professionals. According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, a special meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif focused on the comprehensive reform of the prosecution department. The meeting introduced a ‘set of skills’ necessary for the professional qualification of prosecutors and agreed to implement the Punjab Integrated Public Prosecution System to improve the quality of legal proceedings and investigations. During the session, the Chief Minister underscored the need for a corruption-free investigation system and the improvement of the legal quality of FIRs. Discussions also included the adoption of a digital system to set performance indicators for prosecutors, aiming to bring efficiency and transparency to the prosecution process.
