Qawwali Evening Marks Six Decades of Pakistan-Singapore Diplomatic Bonds

The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore, collaborating with The Esplanade Theatre, organised a captivating Qawwali performance titled ‘At the Feet of the Beloved’ to observe the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Singapore. The cultural spectacle aimed to underscore the enduring connection between the two nations through shared heritage, according to a statement issued today.

Held at The Esplanade, the musical gathering drew a large and varied attendance, comprising members of the diplomatic corps, various art enthusiasts, prominent business leaders, the Pakistani diaspora, and the general public. This diverse presence highlighted the widespread appeal of Pakistan”s rich cultural traditions.

Renowned Qawwals Rizwan and Muazzam, nephews of the celebrated Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, presented a masterful rendition of the 700-year-old Sufi musical tradition. Their powerful and soulful vocal delivery deeply enthralled the audience, garnering a warm reception from all present at the event.

Speaking at the occasion, High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq articulated that Qawwali, deeply rooted in the teachings of Sufi saints, serves as a profound expression of love, harmony, and spiritual devotion. She stressed that such cultural traditions act as vital bridges connecting communities across different cultures and international borders.

The High Commissioner further reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to consistently foster cultural understanding and bolster people-to-people connections with Singapore. On the periphery of the main event, a reception was also hosted by the High Commissioner for attending diplomats and other distinguished guests.

The evening successfully showcased Pakistan’s vibrant cultural heritage and reinforced its resolve to cultivate closer bilateral ties with Singapore through effective cultural diplomacy.
