New Delhi: Senior National Conference leader and Indian parliamentarian Ruhullah Mehdi has voiced significant concerns over the deteriorating situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), with particular focus on recent killings in Baramulla and Kathua districts.

According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, Mehdi, while addressing the media in New Delhi, linked the worsening conditions in IIOJK to a recent security review meeting held by the Indian Home Minister in the capital. He noted that the Lieutenant Governor of IIOJK and Indian security forces were summoned for the meeting, after which, he claims, the situation in the region took a turn for the worse. Mehdi criticized the exclusion of representation from the National Conference-led government of IIOJK in these discussions.

Mehdi condemned the killings of two civilians, highlighting the death of a truck driver, Waseem Ahmed Mir, who was shot on Wednesday at a checkpoint in Sangrama Chowk, Baramulla, by Indian troops. Another incident involved the arrest and subsequent death by torture of 25-year-old Makhan Din in custody in Kathua district on Thursday.

Addressing the killing of Waseem Ahmed Mir, Mehdi questioned the Indian army’s version of events and called for the release of CCTV footage, pointing out the heavy surveillance in the area.

Furthermore, Mehdi brought attention to the recent arrest of over 500 youth across the region, who he claims were beaten, had their phones confiscated, and were taken to undisclosed locations. He described these actions as collective punishment against the people of IIOJK.
