LARKANA:Members of Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS) of Larkana and Kambar-Shahdadkot districts held a demonstration in Larkana in front of the local press club here today to mark the International Mother Language Day, demanding from the federal government to grant national status to Sindhi language in Pakistan.

Known poets, writers and literary figures participated in the demonstration including Sattar Hulio, Malhar Sindhi, Faqeer Noor Tunio, Nayab Sarkash, Sattar Sirohi, Qadir Jagirani, Aziz Qasmani and others.

While addressing the participants, they said that mother languages across the globe have been granted national status in the world but due to discrimination Sindhi language which is one of the oldest language in the world is always denied the national language status by biased people which is a pity. They said they have constantly been demanding national status for Sindhi and all other spoken languages of Pakistan but rulers have always turned down their just demand which is a highly condemnable act.

They said until and unless Sindhi is not given national language status poets and literary persons will continue to highlight this demand through protests, in their writings and in poems. Before winding up poets recited their poetry and highlighted the importance of Sindhi language which was highly appreciated by the audience.

In Madeji as well, writers and poets under the banner of Sindhi Adabi Sangat also took out a rally and held a protest demanding granting national status for Sindhi language. Asif Ghumro, Ashique Shaikh, Agha Atif, Muhammad Ali Ujjan and others said that Sindhi is one of the national languages of India then why it is denied national status in Pakistan where over 40 million people speak Sindhi.

They said they demand the federal government to grant national status to all the spoken languages of the country so that these mother languages could also make progress and flourish and also declare Sindhi language as the national language of Pakistan because it is more spoken and is one of the oldest languages of the world.
