The Senate was briefed on Tuesday about significant developments in Pakistan’s aviation sector and legislative progress. Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif announced a revamp aimed at unlocking the sector’s full potential, including new aircraft induction and the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with the reopening of lucrative routes.
A UK-based team is currently assessing Pakistan’s aviation safety standards, with expectations for PIA flights to the UK to resume shortly. This initiative marks a pivotal step in enhancing the national flag carrier’s international operations.
Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain Pirzada addressed the House regarding the resumption of stalled housing projects. He noted that work would begin within six months and mentioned that the Pakistan Housing Authority has commenced handing over apartments to its members.
In legislative activity, three bills were introduced in the House: the Prevention of Smuggling of Migrants Amendment Bill, 2025, the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Emigration Amendment Bill, 2025.
The Senate passed the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill, 2025, presented by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. The bill aims to digitize the system to meet modern-day requirements. Additionally, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Amendment Bill, 2025, was also approved. It was introduced by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain.
