The Bureau of Supply Prices Department, Government of Sindh, has announced action against restaurants, shopping malls, coffee shops, and biryani centers that do not accept payments via debit/credit cards.
The Sindh Consumer Protection Authority has issued notices to well-known restaurants in Clifton, including Karachi Broast, Frontier, Baithak, Nihari Inn, and Desi Dera.
These establishments have been notified for violating the Sindh Consumer Protection Act 2014, and formal proceedings have begun. Director General Zahid Hussain Sher stated that strict legal action will be taken against such restaurants across the province, including Karachi, that do not provide the facility of payment through debit or credit cards.
The Sindh government has taken notice of this issue following public complaints. According to DG Zahid Hussain Sher, appropriate legal action will be taken against this violation, and inquiries have been initiated to provide relief to consumers.
Assistant Director Mir Shah Nawaz has directed the concerned businesses to immediately cease this violation. Restaurant owners are instructed to personally or through their representatives respond to the notice at the authority’s office.
The Sindh government has clarified that it is the responsibility of businesses to provide various payment methods to consumers, and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated. Zahid Hussain Sher emphasized that the protection of consumer rights will be ensured.
